Asacol and bloating

Sun, February 22, 2009 4:46 PM

Hi everyone;

Just wondering if it is normal to have bloating with Asacol. I am going for a checkup in March. Is this something to discuss with the doctor? I am not a large person, about 120 and 5'6". My stomach lately seem to bulge out right after I wake up in the morning. Haven't been going too well lately either. I am trying some fiber powder to help move things along.

Any suggestions out there will be helpful.

Sincerely,

Marjie

Hi;

I just received a reply from another UCI cohort. She also has bloating with Asacol. We are all different.

Dear Elizabeth;

I did just tell my doctor that and he had no connection to the drug Asacol that it would cause bloating. I think he just wanted me to not think it can cause bloating. Sometimes I wonder if they really know how a drug can individually affect a person. We may have the same side effects. We are all human beings and react to things differently. Thank you for returning to my dilemma. We will carry on and I know you will too. Keep the faith sister.

I bloat from Asacol too. I have always had this side effect from the drug.

Dear Lorilei;

I wish you the best on your recovery. Forgot to add this. I care about others that have to deal with what we go through everyday.

Thank you Lorilei;

I have been diagnosed for colitis and not Chrons. Now I am wondering. I go back to the doctor on the 24th of March. He is the kind of doctor that if I took copies of you and others reply, he would give me a reason not to believe others like us that have to live with it. If he does, I will get a second opinion and go elsewhere. Where I live, I would have to go to Seattle, Wa., but it might be worth it. Some of these doctors only think they can save the world. But our world is not always what they know.

Thank you so much for responding.

I am taking Asacol and I do have some bloating but I just thought it was part of Chron's.  Asacol is the only medicine I have been on (diagnosed 12/08) so I really don't have anything else to compare it to.

Hi;

I appreciate your reply. I must be flaring and really do not know the problem. The Asacol hasn't done this either all along. That is why I was

wondering.

Thanks

  So I was reading your entry and I find myself confused.  I have been on Asacol for 8 years now.  I must say that I have never had bloating due to the drug.  I have however, been bloated when I was flaring.  Perhaps you need to see how your disease right now.  I haven't heard anything else as far as anyone else having this symptom.  You should ask your doctor.  Good luck!
