Crohn's and HPV vaccine

Tue, March 03, 2009 1:00 AM

I went to my gastro doctor today for a check-up and she suggested that I get the HPV vaccine (Guardasil).  Apparently, Crohn's disease makes you more prone to get cervical cancer and the medications that we take only increase the risk.  This is the first that I have heard of this so I wanted to pass it along in case anyone is interested.  You may want to ask your doctor about it.

PS: At 27 years old, I thought I was too old to get the vaccine, but my doctor said they can give to women up to 30 years old.

Hope this is helpful!  Thanks!

I've never had my OB mention the link to this, but I've had the Gardasil shots as a preventative measure.  She knows about my Crohn's, but not every doctor knows everything!
