6mp and pregnancy

Mon, March 16, 2009 12:00 AM

Hi All,

I am in remission with my Ulcerative Colitis and am only mildly symptomatic now once in a whille. I want to start trying to conceive but I am afraid of the risks because I am on 6mp which is a Class D drug for pregnancy.  My GI doctor suggests I stay on it throughout my entire pregnancy but  since it is a chemo agent I am still concerned for the health of the fetus.  My former GI doctor had a different oppinion and wanted me to weene off of the 6mp before conceiving.

Is there anyone out there who sucessfully had children WHILE ON 6MP.  Did anyone have complications from the 6mp while pregant they would like to share. I would really like to hear first hand accounts to help make my decision.

Thank you so much!

Thank you Amkate.

So, what is the difference between Remicade and 6mp? Any side effects of the Remicade? How did you transfer from the 6mp to Remicasde. Did you gradually ween off the 6mp over time or stop it suddenly.  I would love to hear more. That is a good suggestion,

Thanks

I wrote about this a few days ago.  You can check it out below your entry.  There are some thoughts from others and information I found since I have the same problem.  Hope that helps.

Hello,

I have a 19 mo year old- he was a suprise pregnancy! I was on 6mp- I stopped taking it when I was 5 or 6 weeks a long, but it takes over 3 months to get out of your system. Essentialy, I was on it during the first trimester of my pregnancy. I saw a high risk OB- (maybe something you should do or someone you should consult with). I stayed on Remicade throughout my pregnancy and breast feed while on Remicade. My son is very healthy-and there have been no issues or problems with him. It took me a little while to heal after he was born. Could you look at switching to Remicade or Humira-they are a class B drug. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
