Crohn's meds & yeast infections

Tue, March 17, 2009 7:58 AM

I'm 2 mos. into a flare, now taking Asacol, Entocort, 6MP, Cipro, & Flagyl.  The last two (antibio's) were added in the last 30 days.  Now I'm enjoying the joys of the flare-up with the added bonus of yeast infections.  I was prescribed another drug taken orally which cleared up the yeast infection for about 2 wks.  Then I did the over-the-counter stuff which worked for about another week.  I don't want to continually take more oral meds for every symptom -- anybody have any suggestions or living with the same lousy cycle of antibiotics/yeast infections?  Or is this the best I can expect?

Thanks for your post.  I took myself off both antibiotics, and moved back to Bentyl to slow the train down.  My internist gave me a mouthwash for the oral infection and I'm mostly coming around now.  Thanks!

I had problems with yeast infections (even oral yeast infections) while taking Flagyl and Cipro too.  My doctor decided to take me off the Cipro and that helped.  I stayed on the Flagyl, but didn't have any more yeast infections.
