Crohn's & ovarian cyst

Sun, March 22, 2009 12:00 AM

Hello everyone~  I recently had a CT done; going thru a flare up right now. They found a cyst on my right ovary.  My gi doc told me to wait 6 weeks & have it rechecked.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Caused by my Crohn's &/or meds?  How concerned should I be; I'm only 28?

Thanks!

I was having back problems for about a year.  I went to four different doctors and none of them found what was causing my pain.  Finally, my GI ordered a MRI and there was a cyst the size of a small Nerf football.  I had a complete hysterectomy.  I never had problems with cysts.  I noticed that during my periods I had flare ups.

Hey, if I were you I would talk to your GYN about it but I'm 17 and I've had them for years....almost every month, and they always burst which is very painful. If yours are painful or more the 8cm across then they tend to want to do stuff about them, actually they told me that mine would not be as bad if I started birthcontrol.

yeah age doesn't really matter for those things, I have many girlfreinds who have them. and like i said I get them all the time, but I also might have endomiterios so mine might have a link to that.

Worry less, its normal as much as I know, unless they are huge or painful its not a big deal

I had a dermoid (solid) cyst on my right ovary, but I don't think it was linked to my Crohn's.  My gyno said that they are developed from birth and just grow over the years.  Is the cyst solid or fluid-filled?  The fluid-filled cysts are very common and usually go away on their own.  Mine had to be removed because it was solid.  Good luck!

I used to suffer from repeated ovarian cysts due to endometriosis (sp?). This was years before my crohn's diagnosis. I always had them checked by my ob/gyn and 4 of them required surgery. I would see a gynocologist especially if it's causing any sort of pain.  I have had them rupture and fortunately all it did was make me really sick. I was lucky nothing else happened.

Lets see... I'm on prednisone, Imuran, Asacol, & just started Humira this week.  From what I've seen, cysts are not a side-effect to any of the meds.  I was actually suprised when my gi doc told me to wait on getting it checked. I've heard horror stories about them bursting. Looks like I'll be getting in touch with my PCP.    Thanks for replying!

What medication are you on?  Is it one of the possible side effects from it?  I am seeing and learning how these drugs truly affect our bodies.  You know you can always get a second opinion.  Waiting six weeks, what if it progresses and worsens?
