vag/rectal lumps??

Wed, April 08, 2009 10:55 AM

This is the second time recently I have had a lump in the perineum (?) area close to my rectum. The first one I chalked up to an ingrown hair even though I dont normally have them. Now I have another on the opposite side. Both times it started out as a sore spot then a lump. Bless my husband-I made him look at the first one since I couldnt see it and the mirror between the legs just doesnt quite work. The new one, like the first, is sore all the time, my underwear seem to rub on it, and I was even getting a few shooting but mild pains into my "cheek" area last night. Anyone have issues like this? I have crohns and have never had any abcesses/fistulas but I did start having hemmroids (?) this past year that I never had before. Hate to be paranoid but you never know with crohns. Could it just be an internal hemi or do they not show up in the perineum area??

Can any of you give us some insight as to how you have treated these "bumps"....any words of wisdom?

Did you have other symptoms that one was there when they weren't at the surface? I've been having increased back pain but occassionally I do have some mild pains in the cheek/perineum area. Also, I had a hysterectomy years ago so no periods to deal with, I've had like 2 UTI's ever and a couple of mild yeast infections my whole adult life so I don't have any ongoing issues. Recently I have had what seems like a mild yeast infection in addition to my hemi's "hanging out" again. My last bloodwork looked good even though I have been having new issues with my crohn's. My GI is considering another scope since my latest SBS didn't show anything significant/no blockages. Would something have shown up on the SBS?

Hi - I would say it is most likely an abcsess/fistual.  I have had three in that area as well as one on my leftside lower buttock hip area.

They can actually appear almost anywhere.  I was surprised to find one on my hip.  I have also had them internally and had to have my left fallopian tube removed from abcsesses internally on that side which they inserted a tube to drain but the fallopian tube had been removed prior to the additional development of abcsesses in the my lower leftside pelvis.

I would ask for further tests and possible CT scan or MRI.  I know that they can sometimes spot them when they are internal and only come to the surface periodically.

I am currently on Imuran and I still have issues with pain and inflammation in my tissues in the lower pelvic and hip areas so I think it is just an ongoing symptom of crohns.

The lump went away again.  I went to my gyno and he did an exam and couldn't find anything. He told me to come back if it happens again. Just my luck the lump was gone by the time I got into to see him! I took it as good news when he couldn't find anything. Can an abcess come and go on the "surface"?

I posted an answer and for whatever reason it didnt show.....so hopefully you dont get my reply twice.  I agree with the first post.......you really should tell your' dr.  I know it is embarrassing but trust me they have seen and heard it all.  I also have had the same thing and hated to tell my dr.  I had two abcesses in the ileum in Dec and Jan and am dealing with one now so I finally told my dr about the bump and when he checked he thought it may be a fistula.  So you should tell your dr so he can rule out fistula or abcess to be on the safe side.  this really has to be the most embarrasing disease.  Kim ;)

I would tell your doctor.  It sounds like an abcess.  I've had many and they are no fun.  Good luck!
