Severe stomach cramps

Sun, June 14, 2009 8:56 PM

I was recently diagnosed with Crohn's in Jan. Ever since I've been sick everytime I get my period the stomach pains become ten times worse. Some days I can't even get out of bed. Does this happen to everyone with Crohn's or is it something i should be worried about?

I actually had a hysterectomy 9 years ago, as I was bleeding all the time.  After I finally recovered - took almost a year.  I was symptom free for years.  Then about 4 years ago I started getting Very sensitive to some foods, bounced between diahrea & constipation and started having blood with each bowl movement. (I still wonder if I part of the earlier symptoms was the UC, that I am now diagnosed with).

Anyway, I still have my ovaries & Each month have a UC flair... fairly consistent with hormone cycle & when i would have had my period.  I figure it is hormonal - as they affect your entire body... Including your uterus & GI tract.  Talk to your Gastro & Primary Doctors about the monthly flairs with your period... not sure what they can do.

I ended up keeping journal of symptoms - that is how I figured out it was on a kind of cycle/monthly.  Good luck, rest, ice/heating pad - what works for U.

I have severe stomach cramps also during my periods. Before I was was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, my cramps were minimal. Now, the pain is unbearable. I spoke to by OB/GYN and any Gastro. and none of them seem to give me answer. I just try to drink lots of water and be careful what I eat.

I have UC and have never had a problem with my periods untill after I was diagnosed.  Now, about a week before my period starts, all my UC symptoms PLUS those a period brings are about 100 times worse than before.  Horrible stomach cramps, my joints hurt worse, i get horrible headaches, extreme gas, etc., etc., etc. - its not a fun time for me.  I was actually hospitalized one time because of the flare up my period caused me.  Ive talked to my gastroenterologist and my gyno about it and neither of them will admit to me that my worsening symptoms of my UC are connected to my period or vice versa, infact whenever I bring it up, they pretty much ingnore me - i wonder if that has anything to do with them being men?  Anyway, Im glad other women are experiencing the same thing every month, because I was beginning to think I was crazy.

I have UC and didnt have any cramps while in remission. I am currently experiencing a flare up. The pain was unbearable when I got my period. All I could do was lay in bed.

I have UC not Crohn's but prior to being diagnosed I would have zero cramps. Now that I've been flaring since February I experience constant stomach cramping but during that time of month I'm floored in pain. I usually lie in bed for a couple days and catch up on my reading list.

I'm pushing for surgery now.
