I am over this

Sat, July 11, 2009 12:00 AM

I am so over being sick all the time! I been sick for what seems like an eternity. Yesterday I started new meds Cimzia sure hope it works.  I've had Chrohns for the last eight or nine years, went many years with sporatic flares and this last one started in November, and I just cant seem to get over the hump. Never been to forums before but I need to hear from people who understand what its like.  I feel like such a whiner

Have you considered surgery?

I have UC and had to have emergency surgery due to not being diagnosed nor treated for m first flare-up.  I ended up on my death bed with perionitis and diverticulitis.  The infection spread throughout my body over the past year.

I was hospitalized 5 times in 1 year.  The diarreah, pain and flare ups were so unbareable.  I even tried the Asacol and another medication.

I just had my surgery june 24th, and I have a temporary colostomy that has saved my life, my body and my sanity.  I haven't felt this great in years!!!

That may be an option for you before it is to late to consider reversal surgery...

Just a thought :)

Thanks for all the input.  Second dose of Cimzia, still feel crummy.  Third dose due this week.  Kinda freakin about the hair loss possiblility, oh well as long as its not forever, doesnt really matter if I'll feel better! good luck to all.

I hve had crohns for 12 years. I did the Remicade with great success until last year. I didn't try Humaria as was told the shots hurt like O Billy so went straight to Cimzasa. I have taken my 3 doses and about to take my fourth. So far I am doing good, not great but good enough that I don't have to wear my diaper all the time. I have not lost any hair as of yet but will keep that in mine, thanks for the heads up. I had to take other meds while I was on Remicade and hopefully will not on Cimzasa. I exercise daily whether I feel like it or not and I have learned what I can and can not eat. I also just learned that I am latose intolerant.  Please do not let yourself get down things will get better.

To Roklegend:

I have had Crohn's for 9 years and like you have done Remicade (worked for a short time), Humira (worked for 2 years) and now my doc wants me to try Cimzia, b/c it's the last option.  He said I should start to feel some relief of my symptoms immediatly, or at least w/in a few days?!!  When I was on Remicade, I also took Methotrexate and hated it b/c it made my hair fall out.   Does the Cimzia itself have this effect, or is it another medication that must be taken with Cimzia that does it?  I am nervous a/b starting it.  My doc also said that because I stopped responding to Humira and Remicade, that I only have a 20% success rate on Cimzia....

Thanks,

Emily

i have been on cimzia since august, and i think it is working ,just very slowly. I had been on humira for over 2 years, and that didn't help at all. i did the remicade thing many times years ago, and that also did nothing. some people i know on cimzia have reported feeling extremely better within a month or so of getting the injection-i notice my symptoms more slowly-i do feel like it's working, maybe not as fast as others, but i notice that i don't need to take as many pain pills as i usually have-that is how i measure if it's working or not. hope this helps-let me know if you have any more questions regarding the cimzia. just as an FYI, in case your dr didn't mention it, i along with 4 other pt's in my GI;s office had hair loss within a month of being on cimzia-mine started coming out very quickly, but by the 5th month is seemed to stop-now i know this doesn't happen with everyone naturally, but you shoudl be aware of this, just in case-it is not permanant, but it can happen.
