I have had UC, since 2001, and was on remission for a year prior to conception. Everything was going well until last week, I experienced pain in my gut and mucus in my feces. Now I started noticing blood in my stool. I am scared that this will affect my babys development. Will he or she get the nutrients necesary? will I get on remission? I have a GI appointment next friday to see if I have to change my meds. Currently I am on sulfazalazine supositories. anyone else went through this?

I just came across your post so I hope you are now doing well and don't need any information for flare-ups,but if you are still having a problem with bleeding or frequesnt trips to the bathroom.... have you ever tried Sodium Butyrate rectal suspensions for UC. No side effects like with steriods. Also, Florastor helps wonders to stop dairrhea. You can check these things with your dr.
I hope your pregnancy is going well..

Despite making sure my disease is in remission before getting pregnant, I have flared in each pregnancy. I think the most important thing for you and the baby is to get the flare under control quickly. If your doctor has adjusted your med.s and you're still having severe symptoms, I would push him/ her to add other medication. I've been on Prednisone during 2 pregnancies. I've had two perfectly healthy babies despite needing to be on various UC med.s while pregnant. Good luck!

Ok ladies, my husband and I have decided that we will try to conceive this year rather than waiting until next year. I have had ulcerative colitis since 2004 and right now I seem to be in remission. Can you ladies give me any advice on what I need to do before conceiving to try keep my body in the best shape as possible? I am very nervous about this, but I know you ladies can shed some light. Also, are you ladies using a high risk doctor? I was thinking about getting a high risk doctor so they could watch me more closely. Please reply back and keep me posted on your journey.

Thanks writer 14, I am in week 18 now and still flaring. My GI higher my doze of mesalamine and I am no longer bleeding but I have about 20 trips to the bathroom each day. Even during the night, with a lot of pain.I am exhausted...I am still working, but feel without energy. I hope this flare doesn´t last too long.

Thanks writer 14, I am more calm now. I will see my dr. today and see if can higher my meds. Cause it has been 2 weeks now. I am so bloated I cannot sleep! but overall I am feeling great. You are right, stress will make it worse. Thanks for your reply.

My advice is hang in there and try not to get too stressed out yet. I am 14 weeks and have Crohn's. I had terrible debilitaing pain one night at about week 7, and was fine the next day. Also i have mucus and blood in my stool on and off, but i am still in remission, and feeling great overall. For me, it is only a concern when it lasts a few weeks in a row. Hard as it is, try not to be worried, because stress will make it worse. I am sure that your doctor could prescrible a low dose of meds if it continues.

Hey,
So is this your first baby? I wish you the best and luck....I will keep you and your baby in my prayers. Hopefully around this time next year I will be prego. I have UC, and I am not going to let it take control of me

Well, the key is to be on remission prior to conception and keep taking your meds. Take your folic acid 4 months before getting pregnant. And as far as problems concieving, nop, didn`t have any and I don´t think us UC patients have fertility issues. It is more about being healthy when planning to avoid a flare. But hey, nothing is for certain.

Hey,
I'm sure you will be fine....I am actually not going thru what you're going thru. I have had UC since 2004 and I am currently 24yrs old. I would like to conceive next year, did you have any problems conceiving? Are there any tips you could give me while having a condition and being prego?
