Periods and sigmoidoscopes/colonoscopies

Fri, October 30, 2009 12:00 AM

I have a specialist appointment next Friday to get some biopsy results and have a second sigmoidoscope to confirm a colitis diagnosis. I just realized that I will be on my period. I'm assuming I have to reschedule, but if anyone has some experience in this situation, please let me know. I'm new to all this.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I got in touch with the doc today, and they said it wouldn't be a problem. I'll wear a tampon just in case and ask when I get there. I never thought I'd see the day I'd be discussing my poop and period on the internet...lol.

Seems like I had had a period during one of my scopes.  I think he said to just wear a pad.  Since you are laying on your side, the vagina isn't even exposed.  maybe you should call his/her office to see what their policy is.  Might be harder on you to do the prep though.  Cramping and cramping and diareah, ouch and yuck!  I feel for ya!

From experience, it doesn't matter if you are on your period or not. I have had 3 different colonoscopies/sigmoids and each time I've been on my period. But you may want to check with your doctor's office to be sure.
