POST PREGNANCY

Sat, November 07, 2009 10:50 PM

Hello,

I gave birth three months ago.  I came off all my medications during the birth and hoped the hormonal change would carry me through.... and it did.  I have been breast feeding, quite successfully, and feeling better than I ever have.  But within the last couple of weeks I started to have really bad stomach pains associated with horrid gas.  The pains are, at times, debilitating.  But none of my other symptoms have come back.  I am still off all my meds ... and am being told there's not much I can go on if I want to continue to nurse - which I do, more than anything.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced similar or if they ever have these stomach pains and gas, without all the bathroom horrors!.... Or if anyone is on meds and currently nursing....

Thanks.

I have a 9 month old.  I'm breastfeeding and I have UC.  You can take mesalamines like canasa and lialda, it has limited absorption-meaning it stays in you GI tract and is safe for breastfeeding.  Also prednisone is safe and remicaid.  I only know about those because they pertain to me.  I went into a flare, that I'm still battling beginning around 3 months postpartum.  You know, make an appointment with your GI doc. before things get to bad and find out what meds he suggests that are OK.  Good luck!

Have you tried Tums?   They are only Calcium Carbonate and may give you a little relief w/o affecting your nursing.  Just a thought.
