humira and abnormal menstration

Fri, November 13, 2009 10:15 PM

I have been on Humira almost 2 years and weekly for 1 year.  I have been experiencing problems with menstration...my cycle has been lasting longer and longer with symptoms like cramping, bloating, etc has gotten worse.  Has anyone else had this?  could be it be related to Humira?

I am waiting to get my period now for the second time being on Humira but I can tell you the first time was horrible.  I bleed through 3 super plus tampons in an hour.  I had to keep myself on the couch with my feet up because I was afraid I was going to hemmorage.  The cramps and fatique were so bad thank god it was Sunday and my husband was home to help me with the kids and around the house.  If this occurs again I will be calling my Doctors G/I and GYN.  Humira had helped me so much with my illness UC that I am afraid to tell the Docs because I dont want to go back to trying somthing else.

I am on remicade and everytime I get an infusion which is 8 weeks now I start my period. The first time I got remicade I had my period the week before but started again that night and it last 30 days. Since then I have had a period everytime I get an infusion and it usually last between 14 to 45 days. The GI doc says it is not the remicade but I have never had an abnormal pap smear or any other issues other than a cyst on my ovary that I have had for years. I went to an OBGYN and she said my cervix was "friable" meaning the bleeding was not bleeding from the internal linning sluffing off but bleeding from the outside of my cervical opening. She "burnt" the area that was bleeding to scab it up and it did stop. Hope this helps. I still dont feel like I have an answer for what is going on but at least it is better.
