Pregnant

Hi, I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in 2006.  I was in the hospital for a couple of weeks January 2007 because of my colitis.  I have taken prednisone in the past and am now taking 50mg of 6MP and 4 400mg tablets of asacol 3 times a day as well as a steroid enema when I am flaring.  Which I currently am.  I was also just told yesterday by my doctor that I am pregnant.  I also smoke marijuana which alleviates the symptoms of colitis more than anything else i've been on.  I find that if I am flaring or just feeling a little off that if I take a hit or two I feel much better as well as get my appetite back.  When I am flaring I have no desire to eat at all and marijuana seems to be the only thing that works for me.  Knowing how bad I can get when I flare I am definetly staying on all my meds the doctor prescribes.  My problem now is what to do about marijuana.  I know smoking is bad for the baby so I'm thinking of switching to marijuana tea or edibles.  From the research I've done marijuana's (THC) effects on babies seems to be inconclusive most research seems to point more to socioeconomic status of users and other drugs in combination with THC.  I'm curious if there are any women out there who have some advice on this.  My current doctor is advising me to stop taking the 6mp but my last doctor was very adament knowing how bad I was that I shouldn't stop if i get pregnant.(I just moved across the country or I never would have left that doctor) Sorry if this is long and rambling but any advice would be great right now.

Thanks
Erin

I have had ulcerative colitis for about five years and I just can't find any treatment that works.  My next option is to change my eating habits and maybe smoke some marijuana-lol.  I have never smoked in my life, but if smoking marijuana is going to make my UC better then I might need to take a hit.  I am in the process of trying to conceive so I am not sure if smoking pot is a good idea.  So how long did it take you to conceive with Ulcerative Colitis?  I also understand that you are suffering from a flare-will that cause any problems for you and the baby?

P.S. Please keep me informed on your pregnancy-its nice to see women with UC having successful pregnancies-it just goes to show that there is hope alive and I will keep the faith-my husband and I just started tryiing to conceive in November so guess we will see what happens.
