Has anyone experienced a successful pregnancy with the usage of Lialda during the time they conceive until the last trimester? If yes, please share you success or horror story. I am in the process of trying to conceive and I am a little worried about being pregnant and taking Lialda or Asacol-someone please give me some relief and shed some light on this touchy subject.
Thank you ladies

Hello! I have a beautiful, healthy, PERFECT 6-month-old baby boy whom was conceived while I was on Lialda. I continued to take it throughout my pregnancy, and I continue to do so while I'm nursing. Both my OB and my GI doc stressed the importance of staying on my Lialda during, and especially after, my pregnancy, because the flux in hormones can cause a flare. I felt awesome during my pregnancy, but I could definitely tell that I may have experienced a flare a few weeks after his birth, had I not remained on my meds. My advice would be to stay in close contact and constant communication about your disease with both your GI doc and your OB throughout your pregnancy. Good luck!

I've taken asacol and lialda while pregnant without mishap. These IBD drugs are about the most mild prescription drugs you can take to treat Crohn's. Keep in close contact with your GI doctor during your pregnancy and you should have a pretty uneventful pregnancy!
PS-These drugs are absorbed in the intestines, not the stomach so they won't be passed on to your baby at all.

I took asacol prior to and throughout my last pregnancy as well as during the months I nursed our baby without any problems. I did however make sure I wasn't in a flare while we were trying to get pregnant. I felt great the entire pregnancy and our baby is very healthy. Asacol is a pregnancy category B so I felt okay taking it.

I don't have personal experience with these drugs or with pregnancy but I do know that they are a pregnancy category B which means they are often used in pregnancy because they are considered safe and don't cause birth defects or other problems. So, according the literature, they are safe. But, as always, any questions should be discussed with your doctor. Good luck!
