J-Pouch and Pregnancy

Fri, February 19, 2010 1:00 AM

Hello =)

I just have a quick question.  I remember going to seminars that the CCFA hosted and during one of the meetings they talked about women's issues...I remember them saying that becoming preganant when you have UC or Crohn's (i have UC) can be hard enough.  So I was wondering if anyone knows anything about trying to become pregant or being pregant while having had a J-Pouch surgery?

There really isn't much out there about IBD and pregnancy at all...

Thank you it does help, a lot.  You just never really hear much about pregnancy when it comes to these things.  i wasn't sure how everything would work since a lot of these have changed,  it's good to know its possible =)

I have an almost two-year old and was pregnant with a j-pouch. I had the surgery about 10 years before. There were no problems other than frequent bathroom trips from the pressure (as if that were a change anyway) and I had to had a c-section. It was simply a precaution because they were worried about possible adhesions, and the pressure of the baby did cause a few rectal prolapses and they were worried how bad that could happen when I pushed. All in all, it was not nearly as bad as any UC flare up I had in the past. I did become severely anemic from bleeding from pouchitis, but transfusions cured that. I hope some of this helps you and good luck!
