Birth Control and UC

Wed, July 14, 2010 12:00 AM

Hey guys,

I was put on birth control last month to get my period because it was missing for a couple months and my gyn decided this was a good idea.  well i just rescently got my period which set me off into a flare up.  Unfortunatly my GI is on vacation so I had to see another doctor.  He told me i have to go off the birth control because the hormones are setting my off.  Does anyone have any suggestions? if I go off my bc im affraid I won't get my period again.

Hey I think I sorta know what you are going through, I started BC cause I missed my period for 6 months and so once I was in 2 or 3 months with the BC it came back but now that its regular again I do get worse GI symptoms right around that time of the month...

I guess if you had a full blown flair up that lasted more than just 1 or 2 weeks it might be worth it to go off the BC but I wouldn't worry about never getting your period again, eventually once you get well enough your body will start up usually. Also if you just went through 1 month of BC so far I would stay on it, it gets better once your body gets use to it.
My OB/GYN actually has recommended the "never-pill" for me now, you just dont get your period which would probably make you not get a flair up from it again. I forget what brand the never pill is but he also said if I did Nuva-ring that I could just keep replacing it every week instead of every 3 weeks skipping it and I wouldn't get my period then either.  Its something to look into.
Hey also look at the bright side of this when my girlfriends heard I didn't get my period for 6 months because of Crohn's they were jealous!
Good luck!
