Breastfeeding with Crohns

Fri, October 01, 2010 8:38 AM

I gave birth 5 weeks ago and I'm starting to feel those old familar pains radiating in my abdomen... Its so painful to eat but I know I have to make the milk. Did anyone else breastfeed? Is there some secret way to deal with it during a flare?

Thnks guys

You're right you need to continue with nurturing your body w/plenty of healthy food and fluids so your baby can thrive.   Have you considered pumping and freezing?   Just a thought this way on those off days, somebody else can feed the baby a bottle....you just need to pump consistantly to keep your milk supply ample.   Don't beat yourself up if /when you need to stop breastfeeding.  Your baby has been nurtured for five weeks and that will help it w/immunities.   Good luck
