This is my 3rd pregnancy. I was diagnosed with Crohn's at week 22. I had to have surgery due to abscessed/fistulated ileum/cecum etc. I am now at week 30. I feel normal. I just was put on Pentasa by the gastro to prevent stricture. She recommended a C-section. My other two births were vaginal and just fine. My concern is re-entering the abdomen may lead to more adhesions. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Remaining open minded is the best thing you can do. I'm glad you are doing well w/meds and the pregnancy has been uneventful and you are feeling well. Regardless of the means of delivery, at the end of the day you will be holding the greatest blessing of all... All my best.

My GI doctor was concerned about creating a fistula because she feels my Crohns is peri-anal and colon. I have a fissure that occurred in my 20's that is very small and seemingly healed (but healed open). I have had no problems but occasional bleeding with constipation. I had this fissure during the births of my other children. I also already grade 3 perineal tear with the first but nothing with the second. I go back to my GI doc real soon and am going to speak with about adhesion etc. My OB is on board to do either vaginal or C-section. He without commiting appeared to feel vaginal would be fine. I am currently on Pentasa and have been doing great. No pain or bowel movement issues. I am leaning toward vaginal delivery but will remain open to whatever comes my way. I have 7 weeks to go.

I have crohns and ended up having a c-sec after 5 days of being induced at 34 weeks (I developed preeclampsia) and she did not want to come out. I have had no issues related to the c-section with regards to scaring or anything, but I did not have things like fistulas and stuff before either. My daughter is almost 3 now. I just flared within days of having her, which would have happened no matter which way I had her from what they said. I was being treated by a Perinatal doctor through my entire pregnancy though due to the high risk so the Perinatal doctor did my c-section also instead of just a regular OB doc or hospital doctor. Good luck!

Yes, I have heard of ob's suggesting sections. I believe you would be risking more scar tissue which may make it more difficult in the event you need further repair work down the road (giving you less options). I agree with AZ mom though....talk it over in detail to get a good comfort level this way you can enjoy the end result (the baby) even more.
Best wishes

Did the gastro give you an insight into why he/she was recommending the c-section? I can appreciate you not wanting to have a section when your other deliveries have not been. So it is worth asking the question. My s-i-l has Crohn's but ironically, the best she felt was always while she was pregnant so it did not affect her deliveries.
Maybe talking more with both your docs can help you feel comfortable with whatever decision you have to make.
