Muscle spasms?

Wed, March 09, 2011 2:44 PM

I have UC and at times have horrible muscle spasms / charlie horses in between my vagina and rectum? Is it just me? My GI doctor told me my cecum is very low and that could cause it. It woke me up last night and I didn't think it would ever let up. If you have them do you know any tricks that help ease them? thanks

Hi,

Yes I have had the mussle spasms you describe.  They occur very in frequently, but I notice they happen after sexual intercourse.  One lasted for about 45min. and it was very uncomfortable.  I don't know of anything that can help it, except to relax, and it does go away.  I never had them before I was diagnosed with UC, so I don't know if they are related to the disease or not.  I know that when I am having a flare up, I very painful rectal spasms, and I have had to take Lomotil to stop them.  I've finnally gotten wise now though, as soon as a flare starts, I am going to take the prednisone right away, I don't care how weird it makes me feel! Good luck, and hope the spasms go away. Barbara
