Cimzia and pregnancy

Tue, August 02, 2011 7:26 PM

Is there anyone that has received Cimzia injections while pregnant? My GI tells me that there are no known birth defects and i should be okay taking Cimzia while pregnant. Please advise if you can.

I've never been pregnant, so I'm not the responder you were looking for, but I would definitely make sure to run it by the OB. I don't really think there's a whole lot of research on the Cimzia in pregnant women, and I think that as bad as it might sound, the GI docs sometimes don't care as much about the pregnancy as the health of your colon.  If you are pregnant, I'm sure the OB finds out what meds you are on then, and can advise you or monitor you more closely if need be.  If you're not pregnant yet but are trying,  I would discuss it with the OB even before getting pregnant just to be sure you're off to the right start.

Most GI doctors have told me that more than likely they would keep me on whatever meds I am on that are working when I decide I want to try to get pregnant someday.
