Hi, I am new to the forum, and I think this support system is great. I enjoyed (and empathized) reading through the forum questions. I appreciate everyone sharing and supporting eacth other.
So here is my story....I am 35 years old, diagnosed with endometriosis in 2005. I got 6 months of shots of Lupron to put me into false menopause to clear that up for the most part. I have been on the pill almost continuously since then. I was then diagnosed with UC in 2007, after a year of symptoms. I take 4 pills of Lialda and use Canasa when I have flares.
My hubby and I have decided to try to have a baby, and I would like to lower my medication. Lialda is a B medication, meaning only animal testing that showed no birth defects...but I couldn't find much additional information on it, which concerned me.
IBD sucks, and the more I read, the more I feel that so many issues/problems are linked together, and no one is putting together the pieces.
I am interested to know all the little things that have helped you. I ultimately would like to lower my medication dose.
I am trying to decrease my gluten intake, and increase my probiotic intake, but I have also read about low Vitamin D or K levels negatively affecting IBD. Since IBD is a inflamatory disease, any one have any ideas on how to lower the inflamation in the body?
I have recently moved, and although I have a GI doctor, I dont really care for her...in the process of finding a new one.
Thanks for your time in reading this and responding.

Thanks to all of you....you gave me some stuff to look into and bring to a DR, as well as hope, that it does get better.

Trying to lower your meds prior to getting pregnant is a great goal. Though I am in a different stage of life (heading toward Menopause), I came across a couple books that I think may be of help. The first is Forever Young by Dr Nicholas Perricone. I checked it out of the library for gaining control of my changing body, hot flashes, middle spread (weight gain), and changing complexion. His book has an entire section on anti-inflammatory diet. I know it would have to be modified according to your own restrictions w/nuts, fiber, etc., but it could be helpful. There is also a section on yoga practices. I've started using one of the meal replacement shakes and my skin is starting to look more youthful, I have more energy, and the lbs are starting the come off.
The other book is IBD Self-management by Dr. Sunanda Kane. It is the AGA Guide to CD and UC. There is a chapter of Sex, Fertility, and Pregnancy. It even discusses which meds are recommended and which are still controversial.
I hope you find these resources helpful. Good luck!

I agree that diet is the most important thing you can do. I was diagnosed with Crohns 6 years ago and I follow The Makers Diet by Jordan Rubin. It has changed my life and my health. Make sure you have plenty of probiotics, omega 3s (from fish) and Vitamin D. Also, only eat natural, healthy foods; nothing processed, no sugar or unnatural carbs. Hope this helps and best of luck to you! I understand how hopeless it can feel, but keep your chin up, you can get better.
Hi, I'm a 21yr old female with Crohn's. I ....
