Pregnancy w/ Crohns and Fistula

Wed, October 12, 2011 6:33 PM

Hi,

Ive been dealing with crohns since mid 2009. I have a seton placed because of a fistula that exits near my rectum. Though I was on several medicines- last being Humira, drainage has never stopped. So i've been doing the whole wearing gauze thing for 2yrs now. I decided on my own to stop the Humira, because I felt, whats the point to put this in my body when I still drain- though not as heavy as before but no matter what i still need gauze.

Now I am pregnant- about 9weeks, not on any medication, though  my GI wants be back on Humira- has anyone started medicine AFTER finding out they were pregnant? Im only reading on cases about women decreasing there medication when being pregnant but nothing on women STARTING a medication.

Im also curious to know if there is anyone who has gone through pregnancy with a fistula.- I have questions i would like to ask just based on their personal experience (though i know we're all different)

Thank you for you time

Hi!  I had fistulas, too. I drained for about 2 years as well. I didn't respond well to the other treatments (5 ASAs, immunomodulators, steroids).  Doc put me on Remicade, which closed my fistulas up. I am trying to get pregnant too. Some say it's ok for Remicade and pregancy, but others do not. You should check with your doc. I think the immunosuppressants are a gray area, and the mother's health affects the baby. Let us know how it turns out.
