Non-Lady like Issues

Sun, October 16, 2011 7:52 PM

So, I can handle the pain (I've just gotten used to dealing with it), and I know what I can't eat (pretty much everything), and I can pretty much deal and hide anything.  But gas.  I just can't seem to get a handle on it!  It hurts the worse and it's always there!  I mean, my tummy looks 8 months pregnant sometimes!!!!  Anyone have any help in this area?  I am 28 and single.  Ive pretty much chased off every guy I meet or go on a date with because I just cant handle being this way all of the time.  I was driving a date home once and in so much pain I was stopped at a green light!!!  He asked if I was ok, and I had to tell him I had a Charlie Horse.  I didn't know what else to say??? What do I do?

I feel your pain. I am in education and I teach middle school. I've had several close calls, and am so careful what I eat during the day. At lunch I eat as light as I can because I know by the afternoon, my stomach will be rolling. I feel you on the single thing also. My boyfriend broke up with me shortly after I was diagnosed with Crohn's. He said it wasn't that at all, and I've realized that, because there were other issues as well, but now I'm terrified to go on a date with any guy. Not that anyone has asked me. I lost a lot of weight ,but have gained it back, and I feel bloated a lot. I try to stick with a high protein diet because of how the Crohn's effects me, but sometimes I just want to eat lettuce and fruit and vegetables. However, lettuce makes me feel HORRIBLE now.

Laugh. Seriously, theres nothing else you can really do. I was diagnosed in college and shared a small dorm room with two roommates, our bathroom was down the hall, and the beds were up on top of our desks bunk bed style so, it wasnt like I could leave the room quickly at night.  We were in pretty close quarters, and after a little while, I started having serious gas issues. I told my roommates straight up what was going on, and they pretty much had no problem. One of my roommates was super super nice and she never said she was bothered by it, pretty much ever . . . although she opened the window a couple of times hahaha. My other roomie was pretty blunt and shed be like "Ash, seriously!?! It smells awful up in here." At first I was soooooo embarrased. But then I realized to just laugh it off, and be like "Sorry dude, nothing I can do about it." Everyone has their hygeine issues, as my roommate who complained about the stench had really bad issues with burping after eating. (Im sure a BF might have serious BO issues, especially if he works out)  And even though it didnt smell, we still made fun of her for it, telling her she had the "groans" instead of crohns. So I guess my point is, just joke about it and laugh, and you will eventually accept that its not as embarrasing as you think. (I know some guys who think farting is hilarious) Besides, people, physically and healthwise, change through life. That really hot guy who makes a face when you have a gas issue just might be really ugly/fat/wearing depends when you get old. As long as you love the person for who they are and them you, the gas problem shouldnt be too big of an issue.

I fart all the time. I can't help it. They stink too. But if I hold it in I HURT way too much. I just let just about everyone I meet know that I am a gaseous person and if they don't like it I am sorry. I do try however to abstain from letting loose when it is an inappropriate time. At those times I do my best to excuse myself to the restroom and let loose there. It is a part of nature and everyone does it, it is just that we deal with it more then most. I have tried gass X and that does not really help. Neither does beeno. I try not to eat too many foods that make it worse. For instance Chinese food, raw veggies, and fruit, and beans. I will eat those foods only when I am going to be home in my safe environment the rest of the day and the next day.

yeah it is uncomfortable. Even with friends, I don't like to stay over at other peoples places because I'm embarrassed. How long have you had colitis? I've kind of gotten used to it but it's still difficult. Having to make plans and stuff has to revolve around having colitis. It's no fun

Usually no.  Its just hard to get to the point where I can.  Its so uncomfortable to be around anyone, other than Team Challenge folks and long term friends.  So, they usually dont make it very far with me.  I get too scared to get close to anyone because every part of this is just so gross!

I think one day you will find that one guy who doesn't mind it because he cares too much for you. It is something we can't really do much about but be honest ya know? And until you find someone who accepts that then the others are not worth being around. Do you tell them what you have or no?

Thank you Alan, however, I am pretty much on those diets.  I started being Gluten Free in January of this year.  And Ive been Dairy free too.  Actually, I have about a list of 3 foods that I can eat and I still have a problem.  :-(
