First time ttc, ob in northern nj/ NYC?

Tue, December 06, 2011 8:23 AM

Hello, I am new to this forum and all of the information that has been provided here has been very helpful.

I was diagnosed with UC three years ago. I have now been symptom free for a year with the help of lialda and 6mp.

I am now ready to Try to conceive for the first time. I discussed with my GI coming off of all medications - he said he would work with me for the best course for me and the baby. However he did mention that I should find an ob that has a specialty in ibd.

Can anyone give me tips how to find one? Or have any reccomendations?
My doc didn't have anyone he worked with specifically, nor did my gp.
The Internet didn't really help either. Maybe I'm usin the wrong search terms? I'm not sure.

Thanks for all your help.

Jj0721: Since your post were you able to find an OB/GYN that is knowledgeable about IBD?

I am in the same boat and started looking on this site for the exact same help. I was diagnosed with Crohn's 1 year ago but had been symptomatic since 2008. My husband and I are hoping to start trying for a baby in the coming months and I would really like to find an OB/GYN that is at least somewhat knowledgeable about IBD who I can consult with before we actually start trying. I would be willing to see someone in Staten Island (preferably) Manhattan, Brooklyn and in central NJ.

You may want to reach out to large gastro depts where studies are conducted.  Im not sure how much info they can give you on a consult basis, but it may be worth a try.

Thanks lizzies mom!

My GI suggest I look go a high risk ob. I've been searching for high risk and it seems that a high risk won't see me until
1. I have a referral from my ob gyn
2. I'm pregnant

So, I just need to find someone to consult with for now..

Thanks for the tips I am going to call the local hospital next!

Just a thought, you may want to search for high risk obs (your local hospital should be able to provide area docs).   Make a few calls to see if they cover IBD patients.  Also, if there is a CCFA support group/office in your area, they may be able to recommend someone too.

Good luck on your search and your baby making.
