Anyone had Endometrial Ablation?

HI - I am 41 and the last 2 years my monthly has been very very heavy. My obgyn did Endometrial biopsy and found I have polyp. We are scheduling a D&C next month. However due to my heavy flow she initially suggested birth control pills but by GI doc reminded me that folks with Crohns have more chance for deadly blood clots and so getting on birth control increases the risk. So the obgyn doc then suggested I consider Novasure Endometrial Ablation. I read many reviews of it. I do not plan to have any more children so that is not an issue. But wanted to see if anyone who as Crohns has had any Crohns complications as a result of the Endometrial Ablation?

I had the novasure and a d&C this past October and wished I had done it before then. While having a period I can get by with a simple panty liner and only 3 days compare to before when it was every 30 minutes changing the stuff and period that last over a week and every 2 weeks. Well worth it.

I have Crohn's disease and had an ablation in November 2009. I still have my periods regularly but not nearly as heavy. The procedure wasn't bad and definitely worth it. I wish I would have done it sooner.

I had the surgery for the same reasons you mentioned. Period was very heavy after having my daughter and then I started having it every two weeks after a horrible reaction to Remicade. So I had the surgery. It was awesome!...for about 12 months. No periods at all after the first month and the cramps died down and upset stomach stopped, etc. About a year after it though the periods and cramps came back. They are much lighter though, like spotting for 1-3 days and cramping up to a week. So I am still glad I had it done, but don't believe life will be perfect after it is all I am saying. When mine came back the gyn said a lot of people eventually get them back (they did not mention that before the surgery and I even went for a second opinion with another doctor to see if I would be told the same thing). You will have heavy cramping immediately after the surgery. I only mention this because I remember reading people say it in chatrooms and they were saying if they knew how painful it would be they would not have had it done. If you have painful and heavy periods now mixed with what it does to your crohns each month I think suffering for a few days to a week is well worth it. I only took pain meds the first day and then took regular Tylenol to give you an idea. My docs do say I have a higher pain tolerance because of dealing with my crohns though. I think the pains lasted about a week for me, but got better each day. So I would still recommend the surgery, I just don't believe the high stats they will tell you up front on it anymore.
