Functional medicine

Thu, July 25, 2013 3:49 PM

Has any one tried to use a functional medicine doctor to treat Crohns?  I am tired of taking so many pills and would like to try and heal the problem instead of just covering up the symptoms.

Thanks

Functional medicine focuses on addressing the root causes of diseases by considering the interconnectedness of bodily systems. It emphasizes personalized treatment plans tailored to individual patients, incorporating lifestyle factors, genetics, and environment. This holistic approach aims to restore optimal function and promote overall well-being. canadianinsulin online supplements conventional medicine by offering accessible resources for managing chronic conditions like diabetes, aligning with functional medicine's patient-centric ethos.

The book Digestive Wellness by Liz Lipski has a lot of information on functional medicine for treating digestive issues.

SCDlifestyle.com recommends having the following areas tested hormones, GI tract, and liver function.  They have a functional medicine consulting protocol on their website.  But I would guess any doctor trained in functional medicine could provide the same services.

Hello!

I actually started working with a functional med doctor this month for my UC.  At the time the doctors didnt know if it was UC or Crohns.  Either way, he started me on 2 natural supplements and a really strict diet (RepairVite Diet).  Within a few days of taking one of the supplements, I noticed the blood stopped.  It has been a week since I have started taking the additional supplements he put me on and I am continuing with the same diet as it is supposed to allow my gut to heal.  I should not that I have been in a flare since Aug 2012, and severe flare since May 2013.  I had another sigmoid done a few days ago and the doctor has noticed that inflammation has done down.  Because I am doing diet changes, lifestyle changes (on medical leave from work, not running, doing restorative yoga instead), Humira, Prednison, and natural supplements, its hard to pinpoint what exactly is the cause of the reduction of inflammation.  Either way, the diet has been particularly helpful in managing the poos and I have noticed a difference since I have been on the diet.  Everything else will come with time.

I hope that helps.  :)
