Infant Formula for Crohn's management?

Fri, March 14, 2014 2:31 PM

Earlier this week my boss who has 1 almost 2 year old and an infant brought up the idea of using infant formula to help rebalance good bacteria in the bowels, help get the proper calorie count, and as a concentrated form of liquid nutrients/ minerals. I thought this was a pretty good idea myself, same  concept as using ensure minus the added sugars and dyes with the good probiotics needed when a digestive track is forming/ regulating during childhood that often go missing or become depleted with continued or heavy use of antibiotics/ steroids etc. like many of us IBD patients use to manage disease or infection.

I mentioned the idea to a microbiologist friend of mine who is familiar with crohn's and keeps up to date on upcoming and new medical research or information as it arises and she thought it'd be a credible thing to try.

I figure I'll give it a shot regardless once I have an idea of how things stand following a colonoscopy this upcoming week. However, in the mean time I'm wondering if anyone has tried this before, if so, what was your experience or results?
