Food Allergy and UC

Thu, August 28, 2014 12:40 PM

Has anyone been tested for a food allergy as part of their UC treatment?  It seems every time someone hears about my UC and I explain what it is, their first response is to ask if I have a food allergy.  I was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 33 and prior to that diagnosis, have never had any kind of reaction to any kind of food, nor any reason to believe I might have an allergy/sensitivity.  I do realize, however, that allergies can develop at any age, so I am curious to see if anyone has gone through allergy testing and found a food allergy to be contributing to their condition.

haha I guess the forum thought that finger p rick was innapropriate. Make sure you don't do any of the muscle allergy tests, those aren't accurate at all.

i had a food allergy test done, where they do the finger *** and take your blood. when i was diagnosed i decided to try out dieting and more natural ways of healing. turns out i am very sensitive to dairy, sugar, and mushrooms. since i had the test done i have cut out dairy, gluten, sugar, and try to avoid processed foods. after being on a highly restricted diet for several months, whenever i have something that has dairy in it i feel awful and get very sick. i definitely recommend having an allergy test done, because i have never had any issues with food until now, so allergies can appear at any time in your life.
good luck!

My boyfriend has been diagnosed with Crohn's disease for 8 years now. He just had his first surgery in February and is now starting to experience symptoms that are not typical to his flares. It has happened three times (twice with fruit snacks and once with soup) and so we're getting him allergy tested to see if he has developed an allergy.

I think it's good to get allergy tested when you have IBD so that way you know if the food you're eating will just cause a flare or if you're allergic. Sometimes though people don't understand IBD and the only way to make sense of it is to associate it with something like an allergy.

I wish you the best of luck with everything!
