Over Weight - Recently Diagnosed with IBD

Tue, November 11, 2014 10:00 AM

I did Atkins/ Low Carb for a very long time.  Almost 10 years.  There was a point in my life I weighed 400 lbs.  I got my weight down to 187 which is where I stayed for a very long time.  Even after having a baby.  After being so heavy before and taking all the weight off on my own by diet and exercise, you could say im a freak about eating any carbs.  About a month ago I recently was diagnosed with Crohns.  Eating the ruffage and things that I have been eating for the last 10 years I can no longer eat.  I have been eating white breads, pasta and potatoes for the past month and now im down to 172.  I find this very odd because i have programmed myself to believe that it is all bad food :).  My question would be if anyone else has experienced this? Does anyone possibly no why this would happen? Should I be concerned?
Thanks

I hope you are reporting all this to your physician. Although it is good to lose excess weight, it's also good to let your doctor know if you are losing without cutting calories. How much you are eating of these carbs would also be important. Sweet potatoes are carbs but they contain big amounts of nutrition, Read the labels on breads because some white breads are healthier than others. I've always wondered why we are warned about eating rice when half the world lives on it and are healthier than Americans. I am limited on carbs because I am also diabetic, but I feel better "gastrointestinally" when I eat them. High fiber kills me and it is getting harder and harder to find an eating style to live by.

Hey! There is actually a lot of evidence that carbs are good for you and actually fuel you as long as you keep salt, fat, and sugar low. I recommend doing some research and maybe joining myfitnesspal.com to help you keep track of the levels of nutrition you're getting!
