White or Brown Rice?

Tue, April 11, 2017 10:46 PM

I recently did a crazy amount of research into rice, it's health impacts, and it's affect on folks with IBD. Created this detailed video summarizing everything (hopefully in an entertaining way). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWVUzI7zGXE

Wanted to see what folks here had experienced personally. Let me know if you eat rice, and if it helps you manage IBD.

In general I advise no rice since it is a carb that can feed your gut flora and send things out of whack. Hence it is forbidden from the SCD diet. But I understand white rice can also be a nice bland bulking agent that helps some folk with IBD. Curious to hear this communities experience.

White rice is most often associated with the standard American diet, but brown rice is having its day in the spotlight. Brown rice is a whole grain that is rich in vitamins and mineralsand has been proven to have many health benefits.

I have to agree. I am currently in a flare from hell and white rice is a Godsend. Also, how do you respond to boiled eggs? I am having a hard time determining whether or not those are good for UC.

White rice is one of the staples that pulled me out of my initial flair, when I went from 160lbs down to 114lbs and a week in the hospital. Rice and chicken noddle soup soothed my insides more than any other food. Scrambled eggs were also very tolerable. Brown rice causes me gas and I dionnt feel well after eating it. That was years ago, and I dont eat rice that often anymore, but when I do, it rarely causes me any issues.
