Fodmap, Keto or SCD DIETS- WHich one is most beneficial?

Thu, November 16, 2017 8:41 PM

Ive had Crohns for over 10 years and the medicines are all starting not to work in addition to me being steroid dependent for the last year. I need to start one of these diets as i feel i have no alternatives left and want to know which one is going to be the best for me (how do I even find that out) and work the quickest (the faster i see results i think the more ill stick with it). This will be an extremely difficult lifestyle change so any advice for going through that as well is helpful. thanks everyone.

Also I heard alot about Bone Broth- any recommendations?

Everyone is different. I had a major flare last month and after doing some research, I started the GAPS diet. Not good given my weight loss. Not enough calories and too restrictive for me. I then modified to a more SCD diet, but allowing some grains I knew I didn't have issues with so I could maintain a decent calorie intake. Helped, but not enough. Then the big revelation was when I researched FODMAP and compared High category foods with my food journal (good thing to have) and noticed a strong correlation between my intestinal distress and certain food items. I cut out high FODMAP foods and that helped extremely a lot. Also, for me, cutting out dairy was a huge improvement. I was eating Greek yogurt and drinking Kefir thinking I was helping my gut bacteria. Surprise! I was just aggravating my system.

I got a Food Inflammation Test to measure my sensitivity to foods and that was a HUGE eye opener. I had strong reactions to some foods that I eat on a regular basis. I cut them out immediately. I recommend it.

Keep experimenting. You'll find something that works. Just stay away from the junk food, foods with additives and preservatives, and don't overdue the refined grains and added sugar.

Best of luck
