PACKAGED SNACKS THAT WORK

Tue, February 27, 2018 12:22 AM

Hi Everyone,

I'm a 19 yo college student diagnosed with CD my Jr. year of high school. I'm reaching out to the community to get a sense of what kinds of snacks work for everyone here. I've been very careful about my diet:

  • No gluten
  • No dairy
  • No heavily processed foods
  • Avoid artificial flavors and dies
and as a result have been feeling great, with absolutely no medication other than probiotics and some vitamins (D, B12).

But I'm reaching out to the community to get a sense of what kinds of packaged foods work for everyone here. Are there any kinds of bars or other types of on-the-go snacks that people go to for a quick refuel?

I feel desperately in need for a way to get easy but also healthy packaged snacks that won't cause a flare up. I could prepare my own snacks, but it's just not conducive to the college lifestyle. Do others feel the need for packaged foods that won't cause them issues? Any advice/input is much appreciated!!

Thank you!

Hi!  I think it's great you have found a diet that works for you and is helping your symptoms.  I have also had a positive experience on a diet with similar restrictions to yours called the IDB-AID diet, which is a newer version of the SCD.

One packaged snack I recommend are plantain chips.  They are often cooked with just salt and oil (palm usually, though it depends) and they are not too fried.  I buy different brands, including Trader Joe's, and it can be nice to have something crunchy to snack on.

Best of luck to you!

I like Kate Farms Komplete and Fawen soups (a little high in sodium, but not terrible).  Either one serves as meal replacement for me.  They are both drinkable, resealable and loaded with nutrients. Available on Amazon

All the best to you.
