The rationale behind the diet is that by restricting complex carbohydrates magic tiles 3, which are thought to feed harmful bacteria in the gut, it may help reduce inflammation and alleviate symptoms associated with IBD.

Even worse, just 30% to 50% of individuals respond to conventional therapies, which include immune system-suppressing medications and steroids. After six months of immunosuppressant therapy, Flora's IBD flared up to the point where she was in excruciating agony and was ready to try something new. Making everything from scratch, from almond milk to non-dairy ice cream, meant avoiding packaged meals and comfort foods like spaghetti and bread. Additionally, it required locating kid-friendly dishes that were high in fruits and vegetables. After some patients have successfully acclimated to the normal diet, they are also encouraged to experiment with introducing back items. For instance, Rhiannon just regained her ability to consume grains and potatoes. You can download the Touhou PC game or  Download auf der offiziellen Website now!

I have UC.  I've had it for 20+ years.  4 years ago I was told that within the next few years I was going to have to get my colon removed due to the fact that I produced so many pre-cancerous polyps.  It would eventually turn into colon cancer.  Then someone turned me on to SCD.  The majority of the time I follow it - almost 4 years now.  I do a lot of cooking for myself instead of buying so much pre-made food at the store.  (Homemade peanut butter cookies without sugar using almond flour, anyone?)  Last few colonoscopies have been clean.  I still make polyps, they're just not pre-cancerous and no one is telling me they need to remove my colon anymore.  It's the greatest gift imagineable!

It's not an easy thing to follow especially because I have a chocolate weakness.  I did cheat for an entire week last year when I went to London/Paris.  Never had an issue.  When I returned I went back on the diet.  Less sugar has to be better.  I allow myself to "cheat" a little more often than I did originally so it's there if I want it.  I just feel so much better than I used to - there's really no comparison.  It saddens me that there are many people who have had their colons removed & are dealing with all that entails when they very possibly could've been helped by this diet.  Unfortunately it's not widely shared as a possible solution.

Hi Jennas21,

Great question. After about 9 months of being as strict as possible on SCD I eased into eating some illegal foods to see how they would affect me. I was to be leaving on a 7 day cruise and wanted to know whether I needed to pack my own food. The test went well, with no noticable IBD symptoms. I went on the cruise and ate my pre-SCD diet - which means lots meat & sugar. Including ice cream multiple times each day. I never had an IBD issue on the cruise.

When I got home, I went back on SCD for a month or so, then the holidays hit & I've eaten normally since Thanksgiving. So, I've been completely off SCD for the last 60 days. No IBD related symptoms.

I can't be 100% certain that I'm cured & will never need to eat SCD again, but it feels like I am. It's very comforting to know that should I have problems in the future that SCD will work.

That's the good news. The bad news is that I'm packing on the pounds like crazy so I've got to figure out a diet that will work for me long term. The one thing I do intend to continue is to make & eat SCD legal yogurt - I think the health benefits are worth the effort of making the yogurt.

Hope that helps - happy to answer any other questions.

My best wishes to you - I hope SCD has the same impact on your health as it has for me.

Guy

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your story. I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in March of 2019. I am just now starting the SCD. Do you plan on remaining on this diet indefinitely or will you (or have you already) introduce some "illegal" foods back to your diet.

Has anyone else been able to reintroduce certain foods after experiencing symptom relief and/or remission?

Thanks.
