Enteral Nutriton and College

Thu, January 15, 2015 9:43 PM

Hello everyone-

My name is Colette and I am 18 years old, a college Freshman, and have had Crohn's Disease for 6 years. In the past, I have been on Pentasa, Remicade, Humira, Methotrexate, 6MP, Budesonide, Uceris, and Cimzia. All have repeatedly failed, and now I am on Prednisone and have started Entyvio. I have completed all of the begining treatments for Entyvio and am now stuck in the "lets-wait-and-see" stage. In the past, Prednisone has been the only thing to keep me out of flares, but even that is starting to not work. If Entyvio doesn't work, we will be doing enteral nutrition via an NG tube.

This is the reason for my post: Has anyone had good experience with enteral nutrition when medications have failed? And secondly, does anyone have any advice on how to manage an NG tube in college? I am living in the dorms and am concerned about the logistics of this (the machine, cleaning the tube, etc.).

If anyone has any advice or tips they would be greatly appreciated!

Colette
