Hip pain help?

Fri, November 27, 2015 11:03 PM

Hi , my name is Lacy. Im 16 years old and was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis in September. Ive been put on 500 mg of sulfasalazine and it really helps. Anyways, Ive been having hip pain recently. My doctor said it was because Id ate a piece of pizza with cheese on it. It didnt bother me. Shed told me that I dont need to eat dairy and after finding that I ate the pizza, she got really mad. She doesnt seem to understand that not all dairy foods bother me. She told me that hip pain is the first sign of a flare up. I was wondering if that is really what it means. It doesn't seem to be caused by any foods and it just seems to come and go randomly.

Thank you so much! I'll have to try that when it starts hurting again

Hi there, my daughter is on Sulfasalazine for 12 years now and is doing great!  I hope you continue to do well.

As for the hip pain, I too have experienced this and I feel it is triggered by stress / loss of sleep and not food related.

Everyone is different, but when I feel the hip starting to act up, I take an epsom salt bath, a heating pad and then try to head to bed early. Some prefer ice, use whatever works for you,

Good luck !
