Meeting People With Crohn's

Mon, August 20, 2018 11:10 PM

Heyo! My name's Joseph, but you can call me Joe or Joey if you'd like. I'm 19 and I've been diagnosed with Crohn's disease since December of 2016. Even though it's only been two years I've been through a lot of struggles with my disease and I'm looking for some people around my age that I can relate to. Just reply with a bit about yourself and somewhere I can contact you!

Hey Joey,

My name is Kelly, and I am 25 years old, and I was officially diagnosed with Crohns when I was 16. I have had quite an experience with it as well. I have yet to hit remission, and I have had numerous extraintestinal symptoms (specifically eyes and SI joint).

Even with everything we go through we can still be successful. I am currently pursuing my PhD, and I am a powerlifter!

The disease comes in waves, and it's important to manage your mental health on top of the physical health - including finding an understanding community and not blaming yourself for the disease.

I hope things are looking up! My email is kellymguinn@gmail.com

Hi, I am a health care professional that has been in GI field for about 15 years. This disease is hard to control sometimes but with correct treatment, many of the patients can be without symptoms for many years or forever while they keep their treatment. You should have a close follow up with your GI to find the best treatment that relieves your symptoms and disease.  No all treatments work in the same way for everyone, then your Dr. and you need to find together the best option for you. Many patients have achieved this goal!! You can do it as well!!

Hi Liza098 and all in this thread,

Welcome to the community and I hope you are doing well! It can definitely be hard to find others who can relate to the struggles of IBD. It's hard to know where to find others, so it's great that this forum exists! Support groups and Camp Oasis are great ways to find others in your area to connect with. It's also worth looking into whether there are any local education or advocacy events in your area. I'm open to connecting with you if you would like! Otherwise, another thing I'd suggest is asking you GI if he or she knows of any other groups or patients that you may be able to connect with. Best of luck!

HI! My name is Aleah and I am 20. I attend the University of Washington in Seattle and was diagnosed with Crohn's when I was 14. I first met other patients my age when I went to Camp Oasis in middle school. I think foundation events are a great way to meet other paitents. In Seattle we have a young professionals group that meets regularly, you should check to see if your area has something similar!
