I am new to the forum, and I really wanted to share my story, and maybe some of you can relate.

Back in 2005, I just graduated college, and was on my way to pure adult hood. Well, that was before I discovered I have Ulcerative Colitis. When I first found out, I was scared to death, because of the situation, I could not understand it. I was very fortunate to have my father as a D.O. and he quickly send me in the right direction, and sent me to a Gastro, and thats when I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. .

The end of the year, I was put on sulfur pills, and had to take 2 pills 3x a day. That was VERY hard, due to my active lifestyle. So needless to say, I had my share of flareups. We all agree that these flareups really put a burden on your lifestyle and takes a toll on your mood, and your motivation. I was in deep depression, and needed the better help. After years of prednisone, and excessive water weight, I needed a change.

In, 2007, I went to a different Gastro, in FL. After my 2 years of consistent flareups, I got the help I needed. My doctor put me on Apriso. Which is a mesalamine. It was the best decision I have ever made in my life. It has been 5 years of lifestyle change, and the right tools I needed to put my life back into order. Along with a proper diet, I was able to achieve those goals.

Along with the new medication, I started a food diary and quickly found out what my "trigger" foods were. Mine all were ruffage foods. Lettuce, Seeds/Nuts. Along with caffeine and alcohol. But let me be honest, I still drink my daily sodas, and I like to have a drink once awhile(I have found the red wines actually help with UC). When someone tells you to stop this, and do that, you should put it into consideration, but just remember, you life has changed but don't let UC discourage you.
