Newly diagnosed and scared. I feel helpless.

I was recently diagnosed with UC. I am having to wait for open enrollment for insurance in order to prove whether it is Crohn’s disease. I have been put on extreme antibiotics at the hospital after going in in fear after passing blood. A week later my PCP prescribed me prednisone. I am on my 3rd day and feel swollen and uncomfortable. Haven’t had a bowel movement in 4 days. My mother has crohns which is why they are worried about that aspect of it. But I myself am scared. I don’t know where to turn. Everyone just feels so sorry for me. I have changed my diet, but only able to eat the past 3 days. I’m at a loss. Any recommendations?

Start by keeping a food journal! Write down every thing you eat and drink and when. For me I found raw onions, pork (except bacon for some reason) and most fruit and vegetables really bother me. It's ok to be frightened, it's a lot to take in, the chrones and colitis foundation is a really good place for information.

Hi, I hope your inital fears have subsided since your post. i know this is a stressful time for you, changing your diet is a good ide if you know what foods to exclude for yourself e.g "your trigger foods". I would suggest actually trying to do things that take your mind of your pending tests. stress will only make your condition worse and can also inflame U.C so whatever it is that you like to do to de-stress go do it. hang out with friends, go to a movie, listen to music, if you can afford it get away for a day or overnight. Literally anything that makes you smile and/or laugh will help you de-stress and take your mind off things. I hope this helps if not today but in the future, good luck
