Seton pain

Fri, December 25, 2020 10:51 AM

I recently had to have a seton placed due to an anal fistula. Though I have had the occasional hemorrhoid in the past, this was something that surprised me greatly, and has been a constant source of discomfort for some time, probably since the summer of 2019. The pain from the seton was initially severe and intense, but after a couple weeks it did start to feel better. I am about 2.5 weeks away from my follow up surgery to have the seton removed and fistula closed up, but I am now experiencing pretty intense pain inside where the track is. Is this normal? The initial pain was mostly external, where the opening was, but now it is all inside. The doctor did mention some scarring tissue inside would cause discomfort, but it feels hard inside the muscle where the seton thread tracks, and is pretty unbearable. Has anyone else experienced this and will it pass before my next surgery? Thanks and best of luck to all and a Happy Holiday!
