balsalazide and symptoms

Mon, February 20, 2023 7:05 PM

I have been on balsalazide for 2 weeks now- I know it can take 3 or 4 weeks or more I guess to "work"  can anyone tell me if symptoms start to decrease slowly or does it just reach a critical point and there is a marked improvement?  Also I feel like I totally have more trips to the bathroom since being on it as opposed to prior to being diagnosed. any comments?  thanks for your help.

I have not been on that medication specifically, but with others, it has taken up to like 8 weeks for it to start working for me and I would describe it as a gradual improvment. You can reach out to your doctor to ask when they expect the medication to kick in. As for your increased bathroom trips, this is not always a bad thing in my experience as long as there is no increased blood or pain, I find when I am really sick I am more dehydrated and so as I slowly get better, I get less dehydrated which results with me going to the bathroom more.
