Traveling with UC

Thu, April 11, 2013 12:12 AM

Hello,

I'm new to this forum and really happy to have found it. I'm a late bloomer, having been diagnosed with UC in 2011 at 61. Was prescribed Lialda and took it for a while but because there weren't any symptoms I stopped. Fast forward to January 2013 and I got my comeuppance with a flare up that has been going on for three months. Now I'm back on Lialda (4/day) but the symptoms don't seem to be abating much. Have my next appointment at the end of April and plan to ask my doctor about some of the medication I've seen mentioned on several of the posts.

Here's my question: Before this flare up I made plans to go on a trip to China (in late September) for about 21 days.  I'm concerned about traveling out of the country if this flare up hasn't corrected by then. I have to make a final decision by June so have some pressure to make a decision.

I know I have to make the final decision, and will be asking my doctor his thoughts later this month, but wondered if there were any suggestions or success stories from anyone who has traveled out of the country with an active UC flare up? Thanks in advance.
