OTC Treatment (Therapy)

Wed, June 25, 2008 6:22 PM

Like most I am constantly looking for treatments that will improve the quality of life.  Recently I ran across a product called Digestive Advantage For Crohn's & Colitis, so I bought some to try.  It is an OTC product manufactured by Ganeden and is suppose to help reduce episodes of diarrhea. According to the instructions on the packages it states " Digestive Advantage Crohn's & Colitis Therapy is a Medical Food product that is intended for use by Crohn's & Colitis sufferers who are under the supervision of a physician.  It is not a cure for Crohn's & Colitis nor is it intended to replace any medications that were prescribed by a physician".

After taking the product as prescribed I have noticed an improvement, although modest, in my daily battle with diarrhea.  My system is not as "hot" in the morning and the urgency during the day has decreased.

I was wondering if any one else has heard of this and what results they have experienced.

I have tried several of their products, and experienced a mild improvement, but then a worsening of my symptoms so I have suspended further use until I am more symptom-free.  I have found Jini Patel Thompson's website and book, Listening to Your Gut extremely useful, particularly in relation to its material on probiotics.  She has Crohn's and experimented for years before finding a probiotic product that worked for her.  I have had similar difficulties, and am now trying her recommended Natren products.

I actually saw it for the first time in Sacramento at a Rite Aid and tried it.
In my case it made thing worse, but I am not your average Crohn's patient either.

I hope it's doing good for you.

I live on Lamotile, Prednisone and Vicodin and still wake up with urgent attacks or diarrhea.

My problems is much more complicated.  I had two surgeries in 2003 and ended up missing my ilium, secum and a total of 11cm of small and large bowel

Since then, diarrhea is a way of life plus joint paint and frequent urination (up to 21 times in 2 hours).

The funny part is my blood test, colonoscopy, capsule endoscopy, stool and urine samples and CT Scan, all declare me as healthy as can be!

Good luck
