We anticipate a year long posting in Japan next year, not sure exactly
where yet. We will need to get established with a GI specialist there
to continue/monitor Remicade infusions.
Any suggestions/pointers/etc. about how to find/identify the right doc(s) will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Boz

OK I HAVE THE EXACT SAME QUESTION!
I have an internship opportunity in Japan for this summer and first of all I'm wondering if I'm too sick to go, second if I do go ahhhhhh I'm still gonna need treatments, and meds......where do I get all this stuff?!? I'm gonna be abroad for like 2 months so less than a study abroad but I'm also a japanese/chinese and physics double major so im considering a study abroad too.
for real we should chat, if you figure anything out let me know cause I need to know the exact same thing.

I, too, seek this information. I am a college student who wants to study abroad in Japan, and if they cannot treat me there, I will be very upset, because I really want to go there. Japanese is my minor.
I am not on Remicade, but if I do happen to be put on it, I would want it to be available to me in Japan.

Hi,
Asians, as a race, do not have Crohn's Disease near as much as UC. I have CD and have lived in very modern country, Taiwan. I had several obstructions while living there, and eventually came home to have surgery. I could have had surgery there - they would have done the same thing. However, I went to a leading hosptital, and the GI docs there did not have remicade, endocort, 6-MP.... only treated with Pentasa. So they were not up-to-date on GI meds for Crohn's, most likely because they told me they do not have much experience with Crohn's patients.
Japan in much even more modern, but I do not know about experience with Crohn's.
God Bless

Do you have to go to Japan for work?
I wish you the best of luck, but unfortunately, after a bad experience my sister had a few years back, the doctors in Japan are not well known for gastro diseases. She had gone to Japan to teach English for 1 year, in a major city, I forget which one. After a few weeks she got severely ill with digestive problems and the doctors there had NO CLUE what was wrong with her. She was so sick, she had to come back home to go to the doctor. She had a colonoscopy & was diagnosed with UC.
I would definately talk to your Dr. here about your options.
One tip for traveling to other countries...ALWAYS DRINK BOTTLED WATER!! I usually bring some small bottles to make sure I've always got safe water to drink.
