Travel to Disney World

Tue, November 11, 2008 10:22 AM

Help! I am going to Disney next week and I am worried about what to eat and where to eat. I have had Crohn's for 40 years and I don't have much of my large intestines left (5 surgeries). I can't eat any fiber or have any seasonings of any kind. I live on chicken and homemade chicken soup, rice, etc... I am going with my family (kids, grandchildren, etc..) and the last thing I want to do is draw  attention to my situation. I lead a very active life (I never allow my Crohn's to get the best of me), work full time and I am very excited about this trip. Short of not eating much (we have all been there) I am not sure what to do~
Any suggestions would be helpful

This is probably too late, but there are tons of places near AND IN Disney world where you can have your own kitchen.

One more link...this has all the live entertainment around the resort for the current week - updated Saturday nights. Click the tabs at the top to view different parks. Many are sit-down shows and a nice break from walking and standing in line!

One good thing is you can do plenty of planning before you get there. Maps and restaurants and even menus are online, so you can find some Crohn's friendly places.

I've been there many times - in fact I'm planning a visit with my 5-year-old for next month! One great thing is, considering the massive amounts of people, the restrooms usually stay clean. (In most public men's rooms, I'm trying to keep my shoes from touching the floor...let alone me touching anything else.)

Here are some websites that might be useful:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningmain.cfm (Menus)

http://www.wdwmagic.com/menus.htm (More menus - with ingredients of the entrees! - some of these people have way too much free time)

http://www.wdwinfo.com/maps/ (Park/resort maps)

Both of the sites are loaded with information for planning your visit. Keep in mind the activities that might have you "stranded" for a long time...like standing in line for Space Mountain, or riding the bus to the hotel. Don't forget a backpack filled with meds, water, wipes, whatever you need!

And speaking of meds...having something that will keep you comfortable for extended periods is good. The pain pills, antispasmodics, etc. have gotten me through the day!

Hi, I have Uc, not Crohn's but I visited Disney about 4 yrs ago with my family and others. I had the same thoughts...what am I going to eat? Most of the food served there is on the junk food spectrum, nothing good for our conditions. I would eat what I could at breakfast before I left for the park(s) and then I would carry portable food with me in my backback to snack on to get me through the day, such as bananas, Pria bars, plenty of water etc. Also there are PLENTY of restrooms around, they seem to be everywhere, which was my biggest concern...having to get to one in a hurry! Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip!
