Successful youth hostel experience in Italy with Humira

Thu, June 18, 2009 10:10 AM

My son had no trouble traveling to Italy and staying in youth hostels carrying his Humira along.  I bought him a small Polarbear medical cooler which comes with a thermometer and a 'freeze indicator' to tell you if you inadvertently freeze your medication.  It kept the Humira at the correct temperature for the approximately 16 hours that elapsed between leaving our house and arriving at his first hostel in Italy.  He was able to keep his medication in a refrigerator at the youth hostel while re-freezing the gel pack for his small cooler.

Great to know about your experience. How did you get there?
Did you make use of any travel agencies ( https://www.fundayholidays.com/ ) ?

Pinkclouds,
How is your student going to get Remicade while travelling abroad?  Emergency care?  Did you find resources to help figure out insurance and care?  I'm the parent of a college student who is interested in studying abroad and we're trying to figure out the logistics.

This is a great post!  Thank you for taking the time to share.  My college-student son longs to travel.  He is doing well on Rem.... It is just great to hear that your child is getting to explore the world despite having Crohn's!
