Any suggestions about going on a CRUSE....

Fri, July 16, 2010 8:55 AM

Planning on going on a Carnival Cruse in Nov this year and was wondering if there is a way to skip the waiting in the line to get on the ship. Thanks for all the commits and for nashultz on info out of Miami which is where I will be boarding the ship and will be staying in South beach 3 days prior. Any suggestions on South beach at all and what fun things to do while their.

I have  Crohn's and I am a Cruise Specialist.   I cruise out of Ft Lauderdale and Miami so I know those cruise terminals pretty well.  The cruise lines have made the check-in process a lot easier.  The longest part is getting through security.  Not sure how you can avoid that one.  Same thing with returning and going through Customs.  There are bathrooms in the terminals before you go through security and in the waiting areas after security if they have not begun boarding.  Actually if you arrive after 2pm, you should breeze right through the whole process.   Most people arrive early and haev to wait around.  There are also situations where embarkation can be delayed because the ship has not cleared from the previous sailing so boarding cannot begin on-time.  Late check-in  is better if you are concerned about long lines.

What cruise line and where are you leaving from?

I just got back from my 2nd cruise on the Carnival Imagination (with New Kids on the Block.... LOL ;) My only cruise experiences include 2,000 excited women that lined up at the port early. I arrived at Port of Miami around 11AM & the lines were not bad at all. Last year when leaving the ship (disembarkation) I sick & having pain. Carnival was great & escorted me off the ship in a wheelchair so I bypassed the lines. I would encourage to be on the safe side with food choices. I packed a lot of my own snacks this year & kept a somewhat light diet. They should be very accommodating if you let them know. I always bring my CCFA "I Can't Wait" card with me. I also type up a medical history summary for travel. Ask you physician about sea sickness patches in case you may need them. They do not have them on the ship's infirmary. You can also check out wristbands that sit on pressure points & have no medicine. Most importantly.... HAVE FUN!!! =)

I don't know if there's any way to bypass all the lines by explaining that you have a medical condition, but I do know that getting there early will help.  Try to be at the pier at least an hour before the scheduled time that they said you should come-- usually they start letting people on then and the lines aren't nearly as long.  (My grandma is a travel agent and she always has handy tips like this.)
