Hello all, I'm moving to China this fall and I'm wondering what's in store for me. I've been on Remicade and Asacol for quite some time and have not had a serious flare-up in a few years, but if I go off the Asacol I start to get into trouble pretty quickly.
Are these medications available in mainland China?
Does anyone know rules about getting a drug like Asacol shipped to you inside China?
Does anyone have experience with acupuncture treating UC?

Wow, thanks! This is very helpful.
Can you point me in the direction of that supplemental insurance so I can take a look?

Hi there! My name is Rich and I noticed your post. I have lived in, and still travel frequently to China. I have to tell you that, yes the medications are available in China, and for those living abroad in China medical treatment is actually quite good with the exception of some of the more rural provinces. I carry supplemental insurance that helps with providing my medications while i'm there. If that is too difficult I know people who get their meds from the US sent by friends or family. All you need is to fill out customs forms and pay a fee (which is not much)
A couple of pieces of advice for you if you have Crohn's
1. try to vary your diet. I have had major problems with the amount of rice consumed in China i.e. severe constipation so be careful of that.
2. Be careful where you eat. It's okay to eat in local restaurants but ask around about an establishment's reputation and food quality. I have found in most places the food is excellent.
I hope this helps a little bit for you - and have FUN China is an absolutely fantastic place and I have met more friendly people there than I could ever count!
