carry on meds

Sun, April 13, 2008 1:02 PM

I need to take a box of enemas with me to Istanbul. I am not flying direct and am scared to put them in my luggage. I need to carry them on . What can I do so that they will not be taken away?

Each mesalamine is 4 grams.

i agree with the others.  i have been to istanbul and it is fantastic.  you will also be able to buy enemas at the drug stores in country with no problems.

Hi.... I am currently in the US from Australia on holidays. For my son and treating his condition I carried on 9 tins of prescription formula, and a range of meds for daily use and meds for emergencies.

I got a letter from my GI for travel, but also some airlines request that you have one regardless of your condition for all prescription medications. My GI listed each one and explained briefly the condition.

I carried all of this on as hand luggage and wasn't questioned once about it. I carried all meds in a plastic zip lock bag together should anyone stop and ask me. I couldn't handle the thought of having to track down meds and formula and the extra cost etc.

Better to be safe when you travel. Have a great time!

I would try to do both.  If your carry on plans fall through then you still have some in your luggage if it arrives.  Even with a doctor note I would be hesitant to expect that the TSA people at the airport will let you through with them.  They have rules to follow and its bureaucratic.  So if you're really concerned, go to the airport ahead of time and talk to a supervisor to find out what they suggest.  Also, there must be some provisions for accomodations to handicapped people, so perhaps you could check into that side of it to see what the regulations are for such things.

Have your Dr. write a letter stating the need for medication and that you have to bring it carry on. I wouldnt chance not carry on due to lost luggage.

Hope all goes well for you.
