Cimzia

Sun, June 08, 2014 12:37 PM

Has anyone tried Cimzia? I just started the starter pack last week. It hit me similar to the 1st few treatments with Remicade in that the day following the injections I was absolutely exhausted and slept most of the day. I thought maybe that was an indication of success. Not so. I am still having my usual flare symptoms and it is not getting better.

After scopes etc this past week my GI, surgeon and myself have decided surgery is needed and I am choosing to have an ileostomy. My quality of life and the ability to continue working will be much better going this route. I was not responding to the Cimzia at all. Looking forward to what's ahead for a change

I was on Cimzia for about a year and did not see much improvement.  Of course everyone is different and I am sure that it works great for some people but unfortunately it did not help me as much as I hoped it would.  After a year of Cimzia my doctor switched me back to Remicade to see if that would do anything for me and so far it has not.  I have been on Remicade for about 3 months and now my doctor is switching me to ENTYVIO, a new drug that was just recently approved by the FDA.  She said it works a little differently than the other biologics so I am hopeful that it will be the one for me!

Even though Cimzia did not help me I did prefer the injections over the infusions.  The thought of giving myself shots kind of freaked me out at first but after a little while I got used to it and found it to be much more convenient.  I wish that all of these biologic meds were injections because the infusions take so much longer, I have to go to the hospital to get them, and it usually takes the nurses about 3-5 tries to start my IV.

I also will say that I did not notice any side effects from the Cimzia so that is a plus.

Thank you for the reply.  My doc thought that once I adjust to the loading doses the negative symptoms should subside. I am getting a bit better. Still have issues with severe nausea and fatigue but pain has resolved. I am hoping this works for a while. Thanks again!

Hi Mary,

After I built up a tolerance to Remicade, my doctor switched me to Cimzia. I have been on Cimzia for about a year now, and it has been working great for me. No side effects and I am mostly symptom free.
