Chinese Herb & LDN

Sun, February 15, 2015 10:59 PM

I had moderate to severe Ulcerative Colitis, diagnosed in 2006. For over one year now, I've had great success with the Chinese herb Qing Dai and Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN). Both have been shown in small studies to be effective treatments.  The Qing Dai helps a lot and the LDN helps a little. Both are relatively cheap. Qing Dai is available online from at least two places. I get it from 1st Chinese Herbs for about $30 per pound. I bought empty "OO" size capsules and a cheap plastic device to fill the capsules, and take one capsule twice a day. The LDN requires a doctor's prescription. I found a doctor online who practices in San Francisco. LDN through his office costs about $35 per month. Before taking this treatment, four different GI specialists had strongly recommended that I have surgery to have my entire large intestine removed. After taking Qing Dai and LDN for one year my colonoscopy showed no inflammation. I still have two to four BMs per day, but no blood. I think there may be permanent damage due to years of inflammation.

You are doing amazing work! Thanks for sharing your wonderful posts. I was at my worst when I discovered LDN. Low dose Naltrexone (LDN) helps me a lot. I'm on 1.5 mg. Made me feel better, helped with skin conditions. I get 50mg naltrexone pills (So happy I found "GETLDN247" yes, just Google it), than get it compounded into 1.5mg doses. I've been doing this a few years with volumetric dosing. 50ml of distilled water with a 50mg tab of Naltrexone. Dose 1.5mg (1.5ml) with an oral syringe.

Hi Jim
I know this is an old post but was wondering if there was an update. I was diagnosed in May, am 64 years old and want to try Qing Dai. Of course too my GI wants nothing to do with it. I've tried lots of meds so far nothing is working, even the prednisone isn't working. Colocort is helping now at night, I'm having a follow up colonscopy next week and my doc wants to try Remicade next as the Humira isn't working. Question is....I'm hesitant to start the Qing Dai when I'm on the meds as if I feel better how do I know what is working? Should I wait for the Remicade treatments and see if that works first? It's such a struggle...
Thanks for responding if you get this.

Hi Jim,

I wanted to try QIng Dai as I'm failing remicade. Do you still buy from 1stchineseherb? Any side effects? What is the dose? Is there a way for me to contact you?

The last two times that I bought Qing Dai it was from 1st Chinese Herbs at this address:
http://1stchineseherbs.com/qing-dai-fen-indigo-polygonum-tinctorium-powder-1lb-nuherbs-lab-tested/
One pound costs $31.29 and lasts at least a year.

For LDN a prescription is needed. I did a long-distance phone consultation with Thomas Cowan, MD, a physician in San Francisco (Google him). I don't remember how much the one-time consultation cost, but the prescription from the compounding pharmacy (Belmar Pharmacy in Colorado, found on the LDN website) cost $49 for a 90 supply.

Ajsdad My daughter is about to turn 12 was diagnosed at 3. Shes been in remission for a year and only takes a probiotic. She was on Imuran for 6 years and never had complete control over the disease. I started selling the product(probio5) recently because I'm convinced of its efficacy in putting her into remission. It contains L. Acidophilus, bacillus coagulans, B. Longum, L. Plantarum and S. Boulardi. All should be readily available at a vitamin shop or gnc. If you are interested in the specific product my daughter uses you can email me at smihm01@gmail.com. I hope your son finds a product that works for him!

New to the forum.  My son is 21 and was diagnosed with "crohn's/colitis" at age 8.  He has been on several different meds and lots of vitamins and supplements for the last 13 years.  Hes been blessed to be healthy enough to be a D1 college athlete but recently has had a set back.  We could be wrong but feel like the vitamins and supplements have allowed him to not only avoid surgery but be a pretty healthy athlete that trains very heard.  Was on remicade and developed some antibodies and had to go off of it.  His GI doc where he goes to college wants to put him on Imuran and/or Entyvio.  We have always desired to treat this as naturally as possible but had to resort to meds a few years back.  Remicade allowed him to be in remission for a couple years but not effective now.  Have never heard of the chinese herb you refer to.  Can it be purchased at health food stores?  Has anyone ever looked into pig whipworms or fecal transplant?

I was taking LDN for several years before I started taking Qing Dai. The LDN helped a little, but, after taking Qing Dai for a few months, there was a dramatic change. I tried stopping the LDN four times, but each time my BMs increased slightly. I wouldn't dare stop taking the Qing Dai because it's a huge help. I take about one gram of Qing Dai twice a day (breakfast and dinner). I take one 4.5 mg tab of LDN once a day at bedtime.

Thank you for your response.  How can you tell that Qing Dai helps better than LDN?  Are you taking them both once a day?  I'm willing to try it, I'll look into Qing Dai also.

I heard about Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN) on this forum about five years ago (google LDN for more info.). There were two or three members who thought it was great, but there hasn't been much talk about it lately. I've been taking it since 2011 and have found that it's marginally effective. It's definitely not a cure (for me). However, the Chinese herb Qing Dai has been VERY effective (again, for me). Because of this treatment, last year I was able to stop taking Lialda and twice a day Colocort enemas and now just take Qing Dai and LDN only. Of course, my G/I doctor dismissed this treatment without even considering it. Four specialists, including him, recommended that I have my entire colon removed, and now, after this treatment, I'm essentially in remission.

Hello, I recently came across the use of LDN and was wondering how you heard about it and what made you want to try it?  It seems to be effective, how has it been for you since your last post?
